Arabian Horse Tribute – Videos and Pictures

Something a little different from my usual videos. Here’s a tribute to the Arabian horse (and half-Arabian horse), in my opinion one of the most beautiful horse breeds. This is my first video using iMovie. Footage comes from YouTube, and the song is Bhangra by Tomas Huntelaare. Enjoy! Link to video with the full song: www.youtube.com
Quadron – Horse

www.plugresearch.com Quadron, a soulful, experimental duo from Copenhagen, Denmark was the featured “Top Tune” artist of the day Monday on acclaimed radio station KCRW. The band’s track “Average Fruit” was offered all day as a free download and is now available via podcast. According to Quadron’s Robin Hannibal, “the song is about finding what you believe in, and what your heart beats for. No matter if that is working in a supermarket, or as a rocket scientist. Heavily inspired by Charles Stepney string arrangements, the beat is a take on a modern version of a syncopated African rhythm.” “Morning Becomes Eclectic” and “Today’s Top Tune” producer Ariana Morgenstern says of Quadron: “Danish duo Quadron provides a soulful mix of down-tempo beats with beautiful arrangements and orchestrations. Our intrepid DJ Anthony Valadez got his hands on an early copy and started slipping it into the mix here at KCRW. Soon enough, just about every DJ here got behind it. Thanks to Anthony, a US release of their debut is coming soon.” Morgenstern praises the band’s laid back, lounge sound for aptly representing a cross section of KCRW’s eclectic music format. Other notable tastemakers that are fans include Pharrell Williams of NERD and James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, as well as Gilles Peterson of BBC radio who picked the track “Day” as one of his faves of 2009. Singer Coco also sites “Day” as her favorite song as well. “I love that it is the slowest song, but still the one that i can dance …
Wild Horses of Mongolia with Julia Roberts 1/5

In autumn of 1999 Julia Roberts came to live among the nomads of Mongolia and discovers their special relationship with the wild horse. Mongolia is home to the only true wild horses known to still exist. Julia Roberts, who shares a passion for horses with the Mongolian people, went there to sample life as a nomad on the steppes of central Asia and learn first hand why the wild horse has been an integral part of existence there for millennia.
Speed Painting – Horse portrait in pastel (Cara)

A time lapse film of my painting of Cara, a beautiful black mare. I made it using pastels and pastel pencils on sanded paper (Fisher 400). This was a commission for Cara’s owner, and the painting is about 16×12″. I hope you enjoy watching. To answer the FAQs that I usually get: This painting took about 10 hours work. I took my own photos of Cara to use as references. I don’t use water or any fluids. The background is in soft pastel sticks, the ‘brush’ looking thing I use on it at the start is a silicon ‘colour shaper’ tool: it blends the colours. The horse is underpainted with hard pastel sticks and then worked up with pastel pencils. Mostly I use Faber Castell & Schwann CarbOthello. I used to use Derwent, but have had quality issues so I’ve stopped using them and cannot recommend them. The stick you can see some of the time is a Mahl stick, as used by signwriters. It’s just to lean my hand on without smudging the work. I do sell my work and take portrait commissions in the UK (it’s my living, so please don’t ask for freebies!), more about that on my website for anyone interested. I don’t do any teaching or tuition, I just make these videos from time to time because people seem to enjoy watching the process. Hope you do too… happy viewing!
